The Edinburgh Festival Fringe first took place in 1947. Today, it is the biggest arts festival in the world and hosts about 15,000 performances with 700 companies and 12,000 participants as well as 1,500 performances a day, all day and night in 200 different venues of the city.
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is a window for all performance arts. In the absence of structured Artistic Direction any artist can perform and become known whatever their speciality whether theatre, dance, circus performance, cabaret, children’s shows musicals, opera or exhibitions.
