Paris Photo, Paris and the mystery of the photograph

12 November 2015

One, a hundred, a thousand views of Paris: over the last 150 years the French capital has provided an uninterrupted flow of images from the dawn of photography to the most reckless experimentation of today. Each year there are two important appointments divided into myriad events in museums and galleries: Paris Photo at the Grand Palais and Le mois de la photo. The photos continue to be a passe-partout to empathise with the city and attempt to grasp its essence even for just one moment. Because, perhaps more than any other city in the world, Paris coincides with the representation of itself: like a body that speaks reflected in a mirror, or better like Thebes in the mouth of the Sphinx, to quote Italo Calvino.
