“If I know a song of Africa, of the giraffe and the African new moon lying on her back, of the plows in the fields and the sweaty faces of the coffee pickers, does Africa know a song of me?”

This is how Karen Blixen says farewell to Kenya in her autobiography, “Out of Africa”. Africa is a powerful experience.

The first time you find yourself in front of a giraffe you are left dazed and astonished because when it placidly looks down on you from five metres high while intent on pulling off branches as if they were blades of grass, it feels like it is you it is looking at, not the lens of a video-camera while you’re sitting comfortably at home on your settee watching a documentary.
